What are the CO2 emissions when I fly to Tokyo?
I went back to Japan after 4 and half years.
Since the situation in Okinawa was recovering, I calculated roughly how long it would take for the recovery in Honshu (I didn't want to eat bad lunch in quarantine for 1 week!), and since the situation in Honshu was still quite bad in January when I took my ticket, the air ticket was about 80Euro cheaper than the last time I returned, at 660 euros.
If I don't go to Japan now, I don't know when I will be able to go next! I also thought it would be good to have a break since I had been just decided to move to a farmhouse.
I was lucky enough to get a ticket and enjoy my five-week stay without quarantine to the fullest.
4年半ぶりに日本に行った。
沖縄のコロナはひどい状態から回復し始めていて、隔離のホテルでまずい弁当を食べるのが嫌だったのでそれを避けるべく、沖縄の状況から計算してこの辺だったら隔離なくなるかも？という日程を見定めた。チケットを手配した1月はまだ本州はコロナが猛威を振るっていたので前回帰国した時より80ユーロくらい安く660ユーロでチケットが取れそうだった。
今帰らないといつまた帰れなくなるかわからない、それに農家に引っ越すことが決まったので、一旦区切りということでタイミングも良かった。
私はチケットを取り５週間隔離なしの滞在を超ラッキーと思いっ切り楽しんだ。

that is to say
My flight is equivalent to 43 kg of beef.
If I go to a korean barbecue(yakiniku) and eat 300 grams of beef per time,
I am emitting the same amount of CO2 as 144 times of yakiniku.
144 times is
if I live 40years more, my life time Yakiniku amount of co2!! (3-4times in a year)
crazy.
ということは
私のフライトは往復で43キロの牛肉の消費と同じだけCO2を出している。
それはもし焼肉で毎回300gの肉を食べるとして、144回焼肉を食べた量だ。
92まで生きるとマヤ先生から言われている私が残りの人生で年に3、4回焼肉を食べ続け死ぬまでの
全焼肉の量だ。
なんてことだ。
I also took a trip to Okinawa.
For Okinawa⇆Nagoya, 273kg.
I drove to Katsuura.
92.8 kg for Hiroo ⇆ Katsuura by car.
If you think 12 times of Katsuura is the same as a flight to Berlin-Tokyo and back........ I don't know how should I take this.
名古屋から沖縄に行った、そのフライトで273kg。
勝浦まで車で往復した時に92.8kg。勝浦まで12回車で往復したらベルリンと東京のフライト往復と同じ量だ。。。
と考えるとわけわかんなくなってくる。
I decided to not eat meat from the viewpoint of animal welfare.
also I was thinking it is very good for environment.
but
when I think about the environment, this one trip back home is a big deal.
The co2 that was mitigated by my not eating meat has been wiped out.
I wonder when I will return to Japan next.
The day when I next go back to Japan is far away in my mind now.
私は動物の福祉を考えた上で肉を食べるのをやめたんだけど、
さらに肉を食べない事は環境にもすっごくいい！って思っていた。
しかし
今回の旅行は環境に大きなインパクトを与えていた。
私が肉を食べないことで削減していると思っていたCO2はたった一回の帰国で
40年の焼肉分が帳消しになった。（((((；ﾟДﾟ)))))))）
次にいつ日本に行くんだろう。
随分先になるかもしれない。

このメモのような記事を昨日の夜、もちゃんのラジオでエコについて喋るので書いた。
今朝起きると環境アクティビストの荒尾ひなこさんがインスタにカーボンオフセットについてポストしているのを見た。
ドイツのこの会社が信用できるとのことで、真似してみる。
私もオフセットしてこの罪悪感のようなモヤモヤを払拭したいと思った。
